Worship
Sundays 11 a.m.
Sanctuary
Led by our pastoral team
“I was glad when they said
to me, ‘Let us go into the house of God."
Our hour-long worship service includes
songs and hymns, two Scripture lessons and a thoughtful and
inspiring sermon (usually not more than 15 minutes in length!),
followed by Holy Communion, or Eucharist. We are sensitive
to all faith traditions, blending as we do a range from Southern
Baptists to Roman Catholics, evangelicals to social justice
advocates. Our worship leaders wear plain vestments, and the
congregation dresses informally. Children are welcome in worship.
Centering
Prayer
7-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays (except
the first Tuesday of each month)
Davis Hall (Under the sanctuary)
Led by Kim Kolesnik
“Be still and know that I am
God.”
It is only by being silent that we can
hear the still voice of God within us. Centering prayer is
a form of prayer that is both a relationship with God and
a discipline to foster that relationship. It is a prayer of
silence that expresses our desire to just BE with God, which
enables our relationship with God to deepen and become more
intimate.
Each centering prayer session begins
with 20 minutes of silence during which we learn to simply
let go of our thoughts. After centering, we may watch a portion
of a video blending spiritual and psychological teachings
and then discuss how the teachings apply to our lives. Sometimes
we read a chapter in a book and discuss the spiritual implications
for our lives. Or we might meditate on a short passage in
the Bible, known as lectio divina, and reflect on how that
passage speaks to us personally. Whatever we choose to do,
we open ourselves to the guidance and wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
Please join us on this journey of self-discovery and transformation.
Spiritual direction and pastoral counseling
is provided by our pastoral team throughout the week.
