As the wind fills the sails of windmills in paddocks and taps underground stores of life-giving water, so the wind of God’s Spirit fills us and refreshes us.

As the fire renews the bush by bursting open the seeds of life, so the fire of God’s Spirit brings renewal to our lives.

Wind and fire, symbols of energy and power.

Holy Spirit, source of our energy and power, sweep into our lives this day, that we may experience your refreshment, your renewal, your life.  Amen

~ prayer by Moira B. Laidlaw

Dear Friends:

We will conclude our sermon series on The Queer Stations of the Resurrection as we open our hearts to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Easter Sermon Series

We faithfully walked the Stations of the Cross together during Holy Week but did you know that there are Stations of the Resurrection too? In walking the Stations of the Resurrection we are proclaiming that Resurrection happens not only at Easter but many times along our spiritual journeys. By naming them The Queer Stations of the Resurrection we are reclaiming the spiritual lessons that are at each station not only for our LGBT community but for all people who live along the margins of society.

Make a commitment to “try on” some new ideas during the season of Easter so that together we can explore what these queer stations have to teach us today.

Station 1

Jesus rises from the dead (Matthew 28:5-6).

Station 2

Women find the empty tomb (Matthew 28:1-6).

Station 3

The risen Christ appears to Mary Magdalene
(John 20:16).

Station 4

Mary Magdalene proclaims the Resurrection to the
apostles (John 20:18).

Station 5

The risen Christ appears on the road to Emmaus
(Luke 24:13-27).

Station 6

The risen Christ is recognized in the breaking
of the bread (Luke 24:28-32).

Station 7

The risen Christ appears to the disciples in Jerusalem
(Luke 24:36-39).

Station 8

The risen Christ gives the disciples the power to forgive (John 20:22-23).

Station 9

The risen Christ strengthens the faith of Thomas
(John 20:24-29).

Station 10

The risen Christ says to Peter, "Feed my sheep"
(John 21:15-17).

Station 11

The risen Christ sends the disciples into the
whole world (Matthew 28:16-20).

Station 12

The risen Christ ascends into heaven (Acts 1:9-11).

Station 13

Waiting with Mary in the Upper Room (Acts 1:12-14).

Station 14

The risen Christ sends the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:2-4).

Yard Team Sign Up

It’s the time of year when the grounds around our lovely church need extra attention. Donating a little of your time to one of the yard teams is a great way to serve our church, fellowship, and enjoy the sunshine all at the same time. There are sign-up sheets in the Narthex and you can speak with Barb Devlin, Facilities Team leader for more information or call her at 770-843-5878.

Got sippy?

To celebrate motherhood this May, the Social Action Team is collecting sippy cups for the Atlanta Women’s & Children’s Shelter. The goal is to deliver 100 new cups at the end of the month. There will be a basket in the Narthex for your donations.

16th Anniversary Celebration & Community Potluck

May 17th is Christ Covenant’s 16th anniversary! Let’s celebrate by having a community potluck following worship on May 25. This also happens to be Memorial Day weekend which gives us cause for a double celebration! Everyone is invited to come fellowship and celebrate this important milestone in the life of our church. There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex to indicate what you can bring to share. Please see Tonya Burkett and/or Becky Spitzner for further details or contact them at hospitality@christcovenantmcc.org

Chi Rho Press

Chi Rho Press, Inc., is a publishing house serving the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered community, providing books and other resources to nourish the spiritual and religious aspects of our lives.

This is a wonderful way to partner with another company already affiliated with UFMCC and to bring extra monies into CCMCC. They have many items of interest and many gifts to buy and give to loved ones. Please utilize this opportunity as a way of not only receiving but as a way to give back to the church as Chi Rho Press will give CCMCC a donation of 10% of sales from people who list CCMCC in the online secure website order form.

When visiting the Chi Rho Press website and placing an order ask them to list the church name and address in the “Special Instructions & Comments” box on the check out page. If you have any questions please see Valerie Anderson.

Christ Covenant Recycling Program

As part of an ongoing effort to take care of the Earth, CCMCC is recycling service bulletins in a container in the Narthex. If you do not want to take home your bulletins you can place them in that container. Containers for plastic, paper, and aluminum are downstairs in Davis Hall, appropriately labeled. Please join us in our recycling efforts.

Atlanta Lesbian Health Initiative Yard Sale Saturday, June 14, 9 AM - 3 PM

In our continued partnership with ALHI, Christ Covenant is hosting the ALHI yard sale. All proceeds from the yard sale go to the Lesbian Health Fund, a fund for low income and/or under or uninsured women so that they can get life-saving services like mammograms.

Do that needed spring cleaning for charity! Donate your items to support ALHI. You can drop off your donated items at the Health Initiative office on Tuesday April 29, May 6, May 20, June and June 10 from 6 PM - 8PM. The office is located at 1530 Dekalb Avenue, NE, Suite A, Atlanta. Visit the ALHI website for more detailed information or call 404-688-2524. All items donated are tax deductible.

Rosewood Neighborhood Yard Sale

Christ Covenant neighbors are hosting a yard sale and cookout on our lawn later this month. We have neighbors who, like us, are also participating in the 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer in October; their team name is Save 2nd Base. All proceeds from this sale will benefit breast cancer research and we will have the extra benefit of being good neighbors and excellent stewards of the beautiful grounds that have been entrusted to us. If you’re in the neighborhood that day, plan to stop by.

Atlanta Pride 2008 - July 4, 5 & 6

Pride is coming even if the rain is not. This year’s Atlanta Pride Festival will be held at the Atlanta Civic Center complex.  The Festival will utilize both indoor and outdoor space. While there will be some events taking place indoors, the bulk of the Pride Festival will remain outdoors.

Please start making plans to help out with our Pride Booth. We need volunteers to staff the booth, ideas and dedication to make a float to represent CCMCC in the Pride parade and many other areas. Pride is a huge way for us to reach our into our community and let them know we are here! Stay tuned for more details.

Share Your Bread with the Hungry as a Spiritual Practice

We are focusing on feeding the hungry, starting with those in our own congregation and extending to those in the wider community through Decatur Cooperative Ministries. We need canned vegetables, canned fruit and canned meet. We ask each person to bring one item each week (or four cans at the beginning of each month) to help build this ministry.

Mortgage Payoff Campaign

In an effort to reduce our mortgage our Fundraising Team invites us to donate a percentage of our tax refund to the church to help pay off our mortgage principal.  No amount is too small. Everyone’s participation is welcome and appreciated. Thank you!

Congregational Care Team

A Congregational Care Team provides a way for our congregation to respond to the real-life needs of individuals and families. We have a newly formed and trained team ready to respond to offer practical, emotional, and spiritual support to those in need. If you are in need of care, please contact the team at
congregationalcare@christcovenantmcc.org and someone on the team will respond to you.

Need Some Prayer Fast?

If you are in need of prayer you can send a prayer request via e-mail to our prayer team at prayer@christcovenantmcc.org and you can be assured that our prayer team will pray for you. You are also welcome to come to the church Tuesday through Thursday from 9 am – 5 pm or Friday 9 am – 12 pm or Sunday to spend time in the sanctuary for prayer and reflection.
